About FinOptimal
FinOptimal began in 2015 as a side-hustle of a CFO and Controller who despised manual accounting work. After raising venture capital in 2021, we expanded into both accounting services and technology offerings, launching apps like Accruer, Booker, and Wrangler.
This role is part of our Services team, supporting clients across industries with best-in-class accounting solutions and automation. We’re looking for someone who loves accounting and loves technology — someone who can close the books and talk to clients, while also building smarter, automated ways to get the work done.
What you'll do:
- Own the month-end close and deliver accurate, on-time financials for your client portfolio.
- Prepare and review financial statements, mentoring associates who support your book of business.
- Build and maintain advanced spreadsheets that streamline reporting and eliminate manual work.
- Troubleshoot and optimize accounting apps and integrations (QuickBooks Online, popular third-party apps, and FinOptimal’s proprietary technology).
- Anticipate client needs and provide thoughtful, scalable solutions leveraging technology.
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to solve accounting and technology challenges in a timely, professional manner.
Who we're looking for:
- A highly organized, detail-oriented accountant who thrives in a client-facing environment.
- Someone with 4–6 years of accounting experience (close, reconciliations, reporting); CPA or public accounting background preferred.
- Deep expertise in Excel/Google Sheets — not just pivot tables, but array formulas, query functions, lookups, automation, and macros/scripts. If you regularly hardcode cell references, this likely isn’t a good fit.
- Familiarity with automation tools like Zapier, Google Apps Script, Excel Macros, or RPA, with the ability to troubleshoot when things don’t work. While you may not use these tools regularly at FinOptimal, we need someone who has experience working with them, because many of those skills will be transferable to the technology you’ll use here.
- Comfort using AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to speed up spreadsheet building, analysis, and problem-solving.
- Familiarity with SQL and working with datasets is nice to have, but a strong differentiator if you can do it.
- Strong communicator who can explain financials clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- A problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings accountability and precision.
Requirements:
- 4–6 years of accounting experience (month-end close, reconciliations, reporting).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets proficiency, with real-world automation experience.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online (multi-entity a plus).
Compensation:
- $75,000 - $100,000 annual salary depending on experience
- 401K plan with employer match
- Medical / Dental / Vision & Supplemental Insurance Coverage
